On October 6th, Michaela competed in the IESA Sectional Cross-Country meet at Deer Grove in Palatine. She earned a trip to the state championships for the second year in a row by running a personal best of 13:19 for the two-mile race.
On October 13th, Michaela competed in the IESA State Cross Country Championships at Bloomington-Normal. Competing against the top runners in the state, she once again ran a personal best of 13:14 placing her 66th out of a total of 230 runners.
What makes Michaela's two trips to the state meet so amazing? She is only in 7th grade!
Here's hoping for a three-peat in 2019!
Following in Michaela’s footsteps the Girl's team had some 6th graders step up to varsity for the sectional race. Caroline Schermerhorn and Maddie Bauer did great in their first 2-mile races. Katie Fitzpatrick and Sarah Firestone finished out their great Wayside XC careers with 44th and 45 place finishes respectively.
The Boys Team finished 10th in their section and a very dedicated group of 8th grade Waysiders closed out their careers with many runners turning in personal best times. Phil Martire, Daniel Quick, Colin Kochera, Andrew McKenna, Billy Doyle Andrew Chapin and James Hall have all run since the 6th grade and have made us all very proud!
A huge thank you to Rich Hall who stepped up to coach the team this year and who ran the marathon the day after the sectionals (in the rain!).
Great Season. We look forward to next year when the program will add 4th graders for the first time.
